Ebenezer Baptist Church

Abertillery, South Wales

Ebenezer Baptist Church and Community Centre is a friendly and welcoming community in the heart of the Gwent Valleys.

They opened the first foodbank in Abertillery, and run many vital and specialist community services to some of the most vulnerable citizens in society.

However, due to the wide open spaces, tall ceilings and original stone walls, heating and electricity was too costly and many activities had to be cancelled.

Gwent Energy CIC were asked for help installing a solar PV and battery storage combination to help reduce their electricity bills.

Thanks to part-funding from the Coalfield Regeneration Fund, a survey was carried out and work began with a new 10kW solar PV installation and matching 10kW battery storage system.

State of the art energy-saving LED lighting provided safe illumination of passageways of rooms within was also installed, to prevent a huge drain on the battery storage system.

The first quarter passed, and Eryl contacted Gwent Energy with glee at their new electricity bill.

The new savings meant they could increase usage of the building for more activities for the local community.
