Gwent Energy is a community interest company that helps individuals, communities and small businesses to benefit from renewable energy.
As well as saving your money on your energy bills, we also help reduce your carbon emissions.
Our journey began in 2008, helping local communities in Monmouthshire to fund, build and own community wind turbine projects. However, we began getting more and more inquiries for community owned solar installation projects.
We’ve installed more than 500 hundred solar PV systems for homes, communities and businesses – we’re pretty good at it now!
| The Team
Phil Powell
|
Technical Director
The founder of Gwent Energy CIC, Phil originally worked in the oil industry before realising it was vastly unsustainable and he knew we had to change the way we power our homes, communities and businesses.
As one of the original founders of the Tintern Angiddy Project before funding was sadly cut short, Phil has always been involved with community projects and strongly believes in creating a sustainable future for our communities.
Lurli Powell
|
Secretary
Lurli is Phil’s wife, and manages the busy phone line for Gwent Energy CIC, recording important information on behalf of the client to pass onto the relevant team member.
Joshua Thomas
| Electrical Technician
Josh is our very capable electrician, and has been with Gwent Energy CIC for several years now. He confidently manages the installation of our systems. He ensures everything is cabled and drilled correctly and neatly, and he uses his several years worth of experience to overcome any potential issues or difficulties during the installs.
Nick Ogilvie
| PV System Engineer
Nick joined Gwent Energy CIC in March 2022, and has previous experience of working for a Solar PV installation company. Because of this, he is adept at site surveys and designing the ideal system for our clients. He has the knowledge to explain how your system works, and how to apply and register your system with Western Power.
Robbie Morgan
| Trainee Technician
Robbie joined Gwent Energy CIC a week before Christmas in 2021. Despite being completely new to the renewable energy sector, he has shown confidence in installing systems on the ground or on the roof, and recording and detailing important system information for our client’s handover packs.
| The Trustees
All our Trustees are part of other environmental and community focused networks, such as the Transition Towns network. Their years of experience and advice are vital in shaping how Gwent Energy CIC works and how we can continue to best serve our communities.
