The jargon explained

Gwent Energy CIC will gently take you through each process, and can even fill out the forms for you

EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates)

Energy Performance Certificates are official documents with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and provide details on the energy performance of a property and what can be done to improve it.

Properties need to achieve an EPC Level D in order to register a solar PV system so it is eligible for the FiT.

MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme)

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme is a nationally recognised quality assurance scheme supported by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. There are certain requirements that installations must meet before they can be approved with an MCS Certificate. Every solar PV installation needs its own unique MCS number to be eligible for the FiT.

All of Gwent Energy CIC’s registered installs are independently checked by the MCS accredited local company Site Response Services. This ensures all of our installations are of the highest quality by a third-party and not ourselves.

FiT (Feed-in Tariff)

The FiT scheme was a government programme designed and introduced in April 2010, to promote the uptake of renewable and low-carbon electricity generation technologies. Applicants registered with the scheme are paid quarterly for the electricity the installation has generated and exported. Payments were made based on the meter reading you submitted to your energy supplier.

For peace of mind, Gwent Energy CIC offers a care club where we submit readings for you.

The FiT is now closed to new applicants since March 31st 2019.
